So, if you’ve followed All Tied Up on FB at all, you know that I’ve been posting about the Pantone trending color palette and building Pinterest inspiration boards around it for years. But why? Why does it matter? Doesn’t a bride choose her wedding palette based on her personal preferences rather than the latest purported trends?

Yes. A couple should choose the colors for their wedding based on personal preferences, but the availability of that color in everything from dresses to groomsmen accessories to décor will be impacted by the Pantone color trends. Businesses prepping for the coming season look to Pantone to determine what colors to roll out for their product line. Once Pantones announces their trending colors – just pop into any Nordstrom or David’s Bridal or even Michaels craft stores and you’ll see those colors popping up everywhere!

Each season’s palette generally has a hue in each section of the color wheel – although Spring 2018 was notably very heavy in the purple spectrum and Fall 2018 is notably lacking of any true green option (does that shade of olive green even count?). So … you want blue in your wedding, look to Pantone to determine which blue is trending and thus will be most available for décor option – or choose to use the blue you love in those items you can find and use a trending color as a color pop in areas that your blue is simply not available.

And – don’t panic – those Pantone naming conventions are simply fickle. There is very little difference between 2014’s Placid Blue, 2015’s Aquamarine, 2016’s Serenity, 2017’s Island Paradise and 2018’s Little Boy Blue.  So pick a section of the color wheel that you like – find Pantone’s most recent naming convention and go with it. No one but a committed colorist will know the difference.

Pantone recently announced their trending colors for Fall 2018. The Pantone website describes the  palette as full of “self-expressive colors that evade antiquated seasonal structure. These unexpected shades reinvent the seasonal color story … “ Sounds like Pantone is out to break color stereotypes!
